More about Flint, the hair salon and Conor O’Brien’s
approach to cutting hair

The flashes of colour on the white washed walls at new city salon Flint are a mix of original Cuban silkscreen posters and striking works of contemporary art.

Conor’s career started in Norwich, and quickly moved on to London where his emphasis on technique and attention to detail has taken him behind the scenes of the Paris menswear shows and attracted a devoted clientele.

For the past two decades, Conor has been based at the successful London salon, Fourth Floor, in Clerkenwell and has built up a diverse and loyal clientele.

“At Flint, we’re about keeping a cut simple and well structured, paying attention to detail and, ultimately, giving people a haircut they can wash and go and not spend hours getting right,” explains Conor.

A dedicated team has joined Conor at the salon, and they offer services including cuts and colour as well as vintage hair styling.

“I’ve been very fortunate to work with some great mentors in my career, both in Norwich and London, and I believe it’s vital to pass on that expertise. It’s also a large part of why I wanted to open a salon,” he explains.

The arrangement of the salon is flexible with bespoke large freestanding wooden mirrors made by Norfolk designer Stuart MacCallum, which can be positioned anywhere in the salon. The original Belmont barber chairs only add to the unique appeal of Flint.

Conor says: “At Flint, it’s about providing a relaxed and comfortable environment where the emphasis is on quality, which is why it is so important to me to devote our time with every client until the cut and colour are just right.”
