Celebrated London Hairdresser opens Flint in home city
Direct from the renowned London salon Fourth Floor, Conor O’Brien has returned to Norwich to be the city’s latest name in hairdressing; one where the emphasis is on technique and attention to detail. He opened the salon, Flint in Bridewell Alley in September 2009 with an approach to hairdressing that promises a high quality cut in a contemporary, relaxed and comfortable setting. He served his apprenticeship with city salon, Transformer, in the early 1980s before moving to London to develop his career.
Once a regular at the Paris Menswear Fashion Week, Conor has styled the models’ hair for Paul Smith and Comme de Garcon shows in Paris, and for Gieives and Hawkes at London Fashion Week. He has also worked with the iconic photographer David Bailey on a fashion shoot for British designer, Paul Smith.
Since 1995, Conor has been the manager of the renowned Clerkenwell salon, Fourth Floor, where he continues to cut clients’ hair. But the permanent move to Norwich came about because Conor and his wife Rocio wanted to bring up their young family in the calm and picturesque city of Norwich.
Although he enjoys his regular visits to London, Norwich is where his heart is.
“I find London inspiring but Norwich is home, and I’m always happy when I come home; it’s a nice feeling when the train pulls into the station. “It’s great to be back; Norwich is a very creative city and you meet lots of interesting people here.”
Many of Conor’s London clients have a Norfolk connection and have become regulars at Flint. The salon has a fresh and contemporary look with a selection of work from Conor’s collection of original Cuban silkscreen prints on the wall, as well as work by his clients Peter Liversidge, Brad Lachore and Stella Vine.
Conor and Rocio also commissioned Stuart MacCallum, whose work they had noticed at Angie Lewin’s St. Jude’s Gallery in Iterringham, Norfolk, to create the bespoke mirrors for the salon. Designed to look stylish and be functional, the mirrors rest on castors and can be moved around the salon.
Flint is located at 16 Bridewell Alley, Norwich, Norfolk, NR2 1AQ. It is open from 9am from Tuesday to Saturday. The last appointments are at 6pm Tuesday to Friday, and at 5pm on Saturday.
