Who are Green Salon Collective?

Founded by environmental experts, hairdressers & eco campaigners, GREEN SALON COLLECTIVE is the original authority on salon sustainability throughout the UK and Ireland wide.

What do they do?

They recycle salon products and waste the right way! They separate items accordingly and make sure they go through the correct methods to be recycled and then create items (which we will discuss later) that help protect the planet and also items that can then go back into salon use. 100% of any money raised from recycling our raw materials or new products made from our waste goes to charity. By recycling their profits, every month they can support charities and organisations that are close to their hearts. These currently include; The hair and beauty charity, Foodcycle, Haircuts 4 The Homeless and Tree Planting.

What they/we recycle…

·     Hair…all hair! Any colour, any texture, no matter how little or much you have cut off, even pet hair can be recycled!

·     Metals: colour tubes, foils, hairspray cans etc.

·     Plastics: all bottles, lids from colour tubes, cling film

·     Every item we recycle is tracked and weighed so we can get an exact total of what we’ve recycled and diverted from waste!

What are Green Fees?

We add a £1 Green Fee onto every appointment to help towards the costs of transporting, sorting and managing the waste from our salon and away from landfill. Any money left over, is donated to charities including Food Cycle, Haircuts for Homeless and tree regeneration projects.

What those products get turned into…

·     Hair Booms: 1 hair boom can absorb up to 4 litres of oil from the ocean which helps to protect wildlife. They can also be used 2/3 times!

·     Hair Mats: Can be used over drains so that only water runs into them instead of plastics and other waste that we find in the streets.

·     Can be used to help grow your plants! Putting an inch thick of hair in the bottom of your plant pots means they need less water and also means the plants absorb the nutrients so grow healthier.

·     Compost! Breaks down just like food but takes a little longer.

·     Plastics: Combs, colour bowls

·     Gloves: Currently being trialled – they are made from potatoes, corn and sugar!
